Disaster Preparedness: Provider Planning Guide
Disaster Preparedness Guidebooks for Providers Supporting Individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (I/DD)
Disasters and emergencies can occur suddenly, often with little or no warning. Providers who work with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities play a critical role in helping them prepare, respond, and recover safely. Preparing in advance supports clearer communication, coordinated responses, and greater confidence during an emergency.
The Provider Planning Guide is part of an interactive educational course designed to help providers work alongside individuals with I/DD and their families to create personalized disaster preparedness plans. Providers may complete the course independently or use it as a guided activity with the individuals they support to ensure plans are practical, accessible, and tailored to individual needs.
Providers may take the interactive course, print the PDF version of the guidebook for use with individuals and families, or request physical copies from the Missouri Department of Mental Health by emailing a request.
